I wanted to create a SOFT artwork of one of the HARDEST objects of a death: A graveSTONE. A grave- or headstone is for many, one of the most important places to mourn and visit their deceased loved ones. We offer flowers to it, we talk to it, touch it — while the rotting corpse lays meters beneath. While walking in a graveyard, you’re standing on top of so many bodies. SOMEBODY deeply meaningful for someone, but seen in a bigger picture: Just one in a million of dead people. Historically, usually very insignificant, but for others — extremely valuable and loved. The lilies on the grave is a symbol for death and they represent the event of one’s soul passing away from the body. Flowers are something often used in funerals, both as a honoring gift for the dead, but also a reminder of what it means to be a living being. All bodies, plants, animals… Will rot and decay, and it’s all natural. This piece is placed the furthest away from the gallery entrance, to imitate the hunt for that one grave you're going to visit, far away, in the cemetery. Where was that stone again? Ah, over there, yes, with the pine tree… No, that wasn’t the one… Hmm…
This piece was for my solo exhibition «a SOFT DEATH, in general», at Bryne Kunstforening (18.04-10.05)
